  • My manager just called me out for being on my phone... While in the breakroom line.

I'm still trying to process what just happened. I was in the company breakroom, standing in line waiting to pay for my salad. My manager, who was also there, came and tapped me on the shoulder.

  • I thought I was in the way of the coffee machine or something, so I moved. But he got closer and said in a low voice, "That's not a professional look," and then walked away. I was literally

  • This manager has always been big on optics, but this is a whole new level. I'm honestly just waiting for the company-wide email about a new phone policy to drop any minute now. Look, I get not being glued to your phone at

  • Rock3tSc13nc3 Wow, that's definitely something you could chat with HR if you want to escalate this. You are on your own time, when you're at lunch. The interaction was unprofessional and inappropriate

  • JHawk444 I would go back to that manager and say, "Hey, can we talk about what happened today? I was on my break when I was looking at my phone. Why do you believe it's not a good look to be on your phone during your break?" Whatever reason he gives, you can clarify. "Are you saying it's against company policy to be on your phone during your break?" If he says, "Yes," then it's time to check the policy and/or talk to HR.

  • _gadget_girl Our director went on a rant about no cell phones on the unit during a staff meeting. I really wish I had immediately questioned her about how we were supposed to log into the corporate website without our phones since doing so requires an app installed on our cell phones.

  • Mysterious-Present93 What in the ever-loving hell does that even mean?? You're on your lunch break in the break room - who is going to see you? I thought you were going to say you had some outfit on he didn't like or some other nit picking but this takes micromanaging to a new level. If they don't want you on your phone they need to install secure lockers.

  • Optimal_Law_4254 Your boss did you a favor but not the one he probably intended. Bosses are like anyone else who has things that drive them crazy or piss them off mightily. Good bosses are able to manage those feelings and not take them out on their employees. Bad bosses often do. I've seen bosses let completely random things poison a relationship and cause them to get rid of an otherwise good employee. You now know one of your boss's buttons. If it were me, I would make sure that I understood e
